Our discussion was Identify
and explain three differences
between traditional and community policing philosophies. What historical
perspectives have influenced the transition from traditional policing to
community policing within many departments across the country? What impact did
this transition have with regard to law enforcement administration and
management?  

Individuals response – Community
policing allows the police to work more directly with the public. The police
work with the community in order to monitor and reduce the amount of crime
rates. The community working with the police allows them to now which police
officers patrol their area and the police to know which areas have more of a
crime rate, which allows them to monitor them more often.
Traditional policing occurs in some areas, where the police are sent to an area
of crime after it’s been reported. Traditional policing don’t allow any input
in decisions or help from citizens. Many states have chosen to use community
policing since it is more effective in efforts to reduce crime rates. Community
policing allows police to wor with citizens which allows for many communities to
form watch groups within their community and report any unusual behavior or
people to the police.
With the advancement of technology this allows more people to communicate
better, which allows for community policing to work better than traditional
policing. Community policing often has communities to work together and help
patrol their communities, as well as know which officers patrol their area.
