Note: Recycled assignments from previous classes are not allowed. Students are expected to write new material specific to this assignment and this class.   Goal: Demonstrate the ability to create a final Powerpoint presentation that uses both research-based and personal content while effectively using presentation software to communicate with an intended audience.    For the week 7 Final Project you will create a presentation (CO8) that builds upon the week 2 Project Plan and the week 4 Location and Access (Source Organization worksheet) that effectively communicates the knowledge you have gained during COMM120.   Your Presentation must accomplish the following: Presentation will include an introduction, body, conclusion, and properly formatted reference/work cited slide in the citation style of your degree program (APA) All information should appear on the presentation slides – Do not use the Notes section of Powerpoint and do not submit a transcript or paper. Submit only a Powerpoint. Presentation provides audience with information to increase their knowledge of the topic presented (CO1). Presentation engages the audience by using visual elements such as images, graphs, and charts. Appropriate citations must be included. Charts, graphs and images are intended to support the information you present on your topic and should be offered in addition to the main information you include. They do not count as one of the three required sources. Three (3) vetted credible sources are required. One (1) of the sources must be scholarly and from the library. Note: You can use sites like dictionary.com in addition to your three sources; however, dictionary and encyclopedia sites like Wikipedia do not count as a one of the three main sources. It is best to introduce each of your three sources using a signal phrase that names your source by stating, “According to ______” and is followed by a direct quote, paraphrase or summary from this source. The signal phrase serves as your citation. *If your borrowed passage runs longer than one sentence, end the passage with a citation. Be careful not to overquote! Your own ideas and words should be primary, making up at least 60% of your presentation. Information from sources is secondary, intended to support your main ideas, and accounting for no more than 40% of your presentation. *The Turnitin.com score generates your percentage. Appropriate length of presentation 7-11 slides.  Include Reference Pages at the end of your presentation. *There should be a separate page for sources and another for images.DO NOT LIST ONLY A WEBSITE FOR YOUR CITATIONS OR REFERENCE LISTINGS! In your citation, include the author’s last name (or, if no author, then include the very first piece of information listed from your reference listing). Citations and reference listings should be a mirror reflection of one another. In your reference listing, include as many of the following elements in the order shown:    Author (Last name, first initial)    (Publication Date)*enclosed in parenthesis    Title of source (Article or webpage)    Title of container (book, website, etc.)    Other contributors, if applicable (editors, for example)    Location (city of publisher)    Publisher    Web address ***Demonstrating the ability to include information from three credible sources and cite them correctly is the main objective of this assignment. Presentations that do not cite sources correctly will suffer additional penalties, and only those that include information from and cite sources on individual slides throughout their presentation will earn a passing grade.*** Important – Turnitin.com: After submitting your presentation, review your TurnItIn Originality Report. Your score should not go above 40%. *A score above 40% indicates a cut and paste of information, which is not acceptable. The majority of your presentation should be made up of you own words, with the inclusion of direct quotes to help support your findings. Review the individual flags, and make corrections as needed. *Please see the attached rubric for grading guidelines.

Project Plan Assignment Topic My topic that I’m going to research into is the law school and the process of becoming a lawyer. That includes the schooling, costs, and the specific types of lawyers. I’m choosing this topic because for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer. I’ve taken a few legal classes to start but fell out it. I want to learn the steps that are required to become a lawyer once I get my bachelor’s degree. The more I know, the more I’ll be able to decide if this is really a career I want to pursue in the future. Scope and Value For my research, I’ll be looking into the different types of practices there are and the steps that are needed to get into law school. The different practices are important because there are so many and each one has a unique role in our society. Learning a little bit more about each practice is about will give me a better understanding and help me come to a potential conclusion. This topic is of high value to me because lawyers are important in this country. From criminal law down to family practice, not to exclude accident lawyers. This career not only impacts my life, but my clients. It would be their livelihood in my hands if I ever had to defend them in court. It’s best to understand how each specific practice is valued in the world, which one do I feel is the most important out of them all. Communication Medium For my topic, I’ll probably use a powerpoint to communicate my findings. I know the internet will provide me with a lot of information that I’m looking for. As much as I hate public speaking, I’d even give a presentation to my peers about this. I feel for myself that this is a better way to communicate my passion for this topic and how important it is to me. Anyway that I can discuss this topic, I will. Critical Thinking Questions What kinds of skills do lawyers need to have to strive in this industry? What kind of experience is needed to become a lawyer? Reflective Paragraph The area I know that I will have the hardest time in is narrowing down exactly what I need for my research. I know the topic I’ve chosen is relatively broad and I can easily get off topic quickly. This isn’t a topic that I can really research elsewhere aside from the internet or asking a lawyer in person. There honestly aren’t many topics I’m willing or wanting to learn about for the sake of just not being interested in them. I’m really looking forward into potentially finding out more information and deciding if this is the kind of future I want, if I ever make it that far.
